I have found that Reader Works will not always create an ebook file from a Microsoft Word 2007 document saved in the .doc format, and it is sometimes necessary to save the document as a .txt file. The program will go through the process of creating the ebook, but during the process the following error message appears:

Note that the files listed are all xml files, which are stored in a different location. There is an option to continue, and most of the time, it will create the ebook.

When the program does not successfully create the ebook then it is necessary to save the Word document as a .txt file. That removes all associations with xml files or any other problems that may cause the program not to create the ebook.
